Theresa Hak Kyung Cha: Dictee

Dictee

Description

"Dictee" is the best-known work of the versatile and important Korean American artist Theresa Hak Kyung Cha. A classic work of autobiography that transcends the self, "Dictee" is the story of several women: the Korean revolutionary Yu Guan Soon, Joan of Arc, Demeter and Persephone, Cha's mother Hyung Soon Huo (a Korean born in Manchuria to first-generation Korean exiles), and Cha herself. The elements that unite these women are suffering and the transcendence of suffering. The book is divided into nine parts structured around the Greek Muses. Cha deploys a variety of texts, documents, images, and forms of address and inquiry to explore issues of dislocation and the fragmentation of memory. The result is a work of power, complexity, and enduring beauty.

Spend storytime with Clifford! This box contains six stories--a $23.94 value for only $10.99! Some tea parties are for grown-ups. This is a PAPERBACK BOOK. And Off the Grid free pdf it is ram-jammed full of poems by KEY. Originally it was conceived and sold as a hardback book. Increasingly KEY has agitated for that brute to be superseded by something more chic; a slimmer, more athletic version that one can slide into a pocket or down a rugby sock. And now here it is. A discussion of his recent series chronicling the destruction of Oregon's great forests, "Turning Back", takes us to the present moment. Through these exchanges we learn which filmmakers and painters have influenced his work; why, in Adams's view, Marcel Duchamp has not been a helpful guide for art; how he decides upon titles for his books; and what the term documentary means to him; as well as basic technical questions - which cameras he prefers, how he approaches printing his pictures. Additionally, this publication includes a selection of twenty-eight unpublished landscapes. Together these photographs and conversations provide valuable insight into how this master photographer approaches the medium with an expert level of craft, great intelligence, modesty, and above all, a distinct sense of purpose. "Along Some Rivers" will be a valuable addition to literature on photography.
